A native of Los Angeles, Michael Knopoff AIA came home to pursue his career in architecture after studying in the East. He is a licensed architect in California and LEED accredited professional. Favorite architecture includes: the "Case Study" houses by Southern California architects of the mid-20th century; and the work of Louis Kahn.
As project architect at
Montalba Architects, Michael Knopoff has helped design and execute projects throughout California and the nation. Work has ranged from a 1,000 SF poolhouse to a 100,000 SF school, in addition to numerous residential additions and commercial interiors.
At Hodgetts + Fung, Michael Knopoff had the opportunity to play a leading role on several projects of note. He managed the design team on the award-winning indoor/outdoor
student pavilion at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. For H+F's exhibition on the work of Charles and Ray Eames, he executed the design of modular exhibit components, which traveled around the world for eight years, and coordinated the design and installation of the exhibition at three locations: the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; the Library of Congress; and the Vitra Design Museum. Other work with H+F included coordinating the design, fabrication, and installation of a science exhibit in Germany about waves, in addition to executing the design of the wave experiments themselves, meant to evoke the spirit of Renaissance machines.
