This master bedroom addition is intended to complement a "mid-century" Los Angeles home with new maple and glass millwork for closet storage and for art display. The historical indoor/outdoor connection is amplified, as the clear opening of the patio sliders is doubled. The new construction does not extend beyond the existing eave overhang, in deference to the lines of the historical building. The area of the living space adjacent to the windows remains nearly unchanged; in a sense, the addition takes place in the middle of the building, where the storage capacity is more than doubled. The renovation also includes the dressing area, with a recessed ceiling trough for indirect lighting and with integrated sinks and counter. A telescoping door slides away to open the dressing area fully to the closet.
